About Babylon Village
Babylon, which was incorporated in 1893, is a village of approximately 13,000 people and 4,000 homes. The Village Board consists of an elected Mayor and four Trustees. Three appointed Boards assist the Mayor and four Trustees - the Planning Board, the Board of Appeals and the Architectural Review Board, as well as many committees serving our community.
There are many municipal services, facilities, and events in Babylon Village:
- Babylon is a waterfront community with Village docks and over 400 boat berths
- An Olympic sized Village swimming pool where hundreds of children enroll in swimming programs and many families utilize the pool complex for recreational activities
- Summer recreation programs for Village children - gymnastics, basketball, tennis, golf and “Science Fridays.”
- Summer concerts at the Gazebo in Argyle Park/ Family Movie Nights at the Gazebo
- Nine hole par 3 golf course offering junior clinics, men’s and women’s leagues
- Eight children’s playgrounds, 3 little league baseball and softball fields, 6 tennis courts and 2 basketball courts throughout the village 2 dog parks
- Business district WiFi
- The opening of the Argyle Theatre in downtown Babylon Village as a cultural and perfomance center for arts, theatre and entertainment.
- Village of Babylon Maintenance and Highway Department working closely together with the Babylon Chamber of Commerce, Beautification Society and other organizations to ensure successful, safe and enjoyable events throughout the year in Babylon Village.
- Village volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad
- Village Highway Department maintains 45 miles of roads daily
- Village Sanitation Department provides back door garbage pick up and weekly trash collection
- Village Parks Department and Greenhouse Department in conjunction with the Babylon Beautification Society (BBS) plants and maintains seasonal gardens throughout the Village
- The Village and BBS purchased over 600 old fashioned lamp posts which the Village has installed and maintains
- Village tree planting program on residential and business streets
- The Village Historical Society showcases programs and exhibits at the Livingston Center
- Babylon Village Founders House - The Nathaniel Conklin 1803 House has been restored and is open to the public for many seasonal and cultural events
- Voted one of the top six downtown villages on Long Island by Newsday
- Awarded the 2010 Smart Growth Award by Vision Long Island
- Preserving the trails of “the Greenbelt” from Argyle Lake to Belmont Park, known as Southards Pond where horseback riding and stables can be enjoyed.

- Awarded in 2017 and 2018 one of Standard and Poor’s highest bond rating of AA and with a forecast of a strong and stable outlook
